Aravali Thermal Power Plant

Aravali Thermal Power Plant or Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project (IGSTPP) is situated between the towns of Khanpur Khurd and Jharli village in Jhajjar district of Haryana. It is commissioned in the month of October in 2010. The Approved Capacity of this thermal power plant is 1500 Megawatts and the installed capacity of this thermal power plant is 1500 Megawatts. The Status of this thermal power plant is operational and is a mega power project. The source of Coal for the production of power in Thermal Power Plant is from Mahanadi Coalfield Limited, Eastern Coalfield Limited and Northern Coalfield Limited. The source of water is from Jawahar Lal Nehru feeder canal. The type of plant is Subcritical. The owner of this thermal power plant were National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited (IPGCL). The operator of this thermal power plant is Aravali Power Company Private Limited.

There are 3 units in Operation and they are Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3 (in Stage 1). The Unit 1 is commissioned in 2010 October 31st with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The Unit 2 is commissioned in 2011 November 5th with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. After that, Unit 3 is commissioned in 2012 November 7th with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. In Stage 2, there are two units for future provision. They are Unit 4 and Unit 5. Unit 4 has approved capacity of 660 Megawatt and Unit 5 has an approved capacity of 660 Megawatt. The equity sharing of this thermal plant is NTPC (50 %), HPGCL (25 %) and IPGCL (25%). The beneficiary states of Aravali Thermal Power Plant is for Northern and Southern States of India. The Northern States were Delhi, Haryana, HP, J & K, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP and Uttarakhand. The Southern States were, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.

The Jharli village is around 35 kilometers away from Jhajjar region of the state Haryana and around 100 kilometer away from the union territory of Delhi. The driving distance from Jhajjar to Jharli power station is around 37 kilometers. You can get transport buses or taxi services from nearby cities and towns to Jharli Power Station. Jharli Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station and Indira Gandhi International Airport of Jhajjar is the nearest airport.
